Unfortunately, most of the villages in the Jordão region lack clean drinking water.
The TXA TXA project ("water" in hatxã kuin, the language of the Huni Kuin) aims to provide sustainable access to clean water and basic sanitation to villages in the municipality of Jordão, Acre. The lack of clean water and adequate sanitation leads to high rates of waterborne diseases and child mortality in the Huni Kuin villages. The infrastructure being built locally consists of artesian wells with solar pumps and wastewater filtration using banana plants. The project aims to improve the quality of life, especially of women and children. Plants will be constructed in 20 to 25 villages in the region. This will directly reach an estimated population of about 1 700 people.
The project will be implemented together with our local partner organizations.
