It is a great privilege to receive visits from the Huni Kuin in Europe. They share their culture, their knowledge and their challenges with us and make contacts to strengthen their alliance.
Rita, Yaká and Shane Huni Kuin are coming to Berlin for a short visit in September 2024. You can find the program below.

Bunke Inani Huni Kuin
Bunke Inani Huni Kuin lives in the village of Boa Vista on the Rio Jordão in Acre, in the Brazilian Amazon. She has 5 children and is a cultural leader for women in her region. She has traveled extensively throughout Latin America, Europe and the Middle East to share her culture and traditions and to advocate for more indigenous wisdom in the world. Bunke also works with other Indigenous peoples, sharing Huni Kuin wisdom and medicine to strengthen their indigenous identities. She is an experienced workshop and retreat leader with a strong focus on women's empowerment. Bunke is co-founder and president of the women's association Aibu Dayá.
Rita Huni Kuin
Rita Huni Kuin comes from the village of Chico Curumim on the Rio Jordão and lives in the small town of Jordão. She is a visual artist and depicts traditional oral stories from her culture and her own visions in her art. Her works have been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in São Paulo (MASP) and at Berlin Art Week, among others. Rita is one of the most important young representatives and spokespeople of the Huni Kuin. Together with her sister Yaká, she is co-founder of the Huni Kuin artists' group Kayatibú, which promotes the culture and spirituality of her people through art, and the Indigenous women's association Aibu Dayá. This is Rita's third stay in Germany!
Yaká Huni Kuin
Like her sister Rita, Yaká Huni Kuin was born in the village of Chico Curumim. She is a renowned visual artist and a dedicated student of the traditional teachings and medicines of her culture. Yaká began to pass on her cultural heritage at a young age. Her journey as an artist began at the age of 15 when she started to bring her knowledge and visions to canvas. Together with her sister Rita, Yaká is a co-founder of the Huni Kuin artist group Kayatíbú. She is also an important voice in her community, campaigning for unity among the villages of the Jordão region and for the protection of their traditional culture. We are proud to welcome Yaká in Germany for the first time!
Shane Huni Kuin
Shane is a singer from the village of Chico Curumim and the eldest son of the village chief. He has been familiar with the traditional wisdom and sacred songs of his people since birth, and has dedicated his life to preserving and passing on this cultural heritage.
The sacred songs, known as Huni Meka, are passed down from generation to generation. They deepen our connection to nature and are revered for their profound healing power.

Damixarabú: Art exhibition and vernissage by Rita and Yaká Huni Kuin
Damixarabú: The era of transformation. This is the title of the two sisters' first joint exhibition in Europe. The vernissage will be a festive moment where music will be played and an exchange with the artists can take place. The exhibition will be rounded off with photographs by photographer Jakob Stolz, who visited Huni Kuin in 2023.

Huni Kuin Exhibition with Rita Huni Kuin & Guests

Rita Huni Kuin is one of the most renowned female young Indigenous artists from the Brazilian Amazon. The autodidact interprets traditional myths, chants and stories from her people, the Huni Kuin, in her own style. Rita has been exhibiting at the Museum of Modern Art in São Paulo, at the Humboldt Forum in Berlin and at Berlin Art Week. Now she's back to Berlin with new works. The exhibition takes place in cooperation with the German photographer and photo artist Jakob Stolz, who visited the Huni Kuin in earlier this year. A video installation portraying the life in the villages of the Huni Kuin people by Brazilian filmmaker Flora Suzuki rounds off the exhibition.
All proceedings of the exhibition go to projects of the Huni Kuin people, supported by the German NGO Living Gaia e.V. It will be possible to acquire the works of Rita and Jakob. Rita will be present during all three days of the exhibition, also giving body painting workshops and explaining the ancient patterns of the Huni Kuin. Join this multisensorial dive into Indigenous Amazonia!
The Vernissage will take place on Friday, 8th. The artists Rita Huni Kuin and Jakob Stolz will be present. There will be a cultural presentation by the Huni Kuin, as well as Snacks and Drinks.

The event will take place in the framework of the Amazon Week.
Even after the change of government in Brazil at the beginning of 2023, the protection of the Amazon faces major challenges. What is the role of the indigenous peoples? What difficulties must be overcome? What new approaches are there for the long-term protection of the Amazon? And how can we, from Europe, support the efforts on the ground? Indigenous activist Rita Huni Kuin will discuss these and other questions together with experts on the topic of Amazon protection. We look forward to seeing you there!

Bunke Inani Huni Kuin a medicine woman, mother and representative of the Huni Kuin women will share her prayers and traditions from the forest.
